A.D. Kinne was born in New York. Kinne worked as a doorkeeper at the White House. Though the exact years of his service are unclear, he appeared in the 1885 and 1887 Official Registers of the United States listing all federal government employees; the registers identified Kinne as a doorkeeper earning $1,200 per year.1 In this role, he coordinated the president’s schedule, managed access to the White House, and helped maintain order within the Residence.
