Wilma Sands Wetenhall was born in Bonifay, Florida, on January 7, 1926.1 She moved to the Washington, D.C. area in her twenties and worked at the Capital Hilton Hotel and the Department of the Navy before joining the White House staff in 1965.
She initially worked on the gift unit, helping First Lady Lady Bird Johnson sort and manage gifts that came to the White House.2 By 1977, she had transferred onto the Residence Staff, serving as an administrative assistant in the Office of the Curator under Clement E. Conger.3 Wilma Wetenhall died on May 12, 1980, and was buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in West Chester County, New York.4
