All that we currently know about George L. Jones comes from a single source: a White House Residence Staff list compiled in 1961 during the early days of John F. Kennedy’s presidency. Jones is included on the list and described as a doorman.1 As White House doorman, Jones would greet guests, escort them through the White House, help maintain the president’s schedule, and deliver mail, messages, and packages within the White House.
